WHAT’S GOING ON?

Lots!

1. The Uxbridge Studio Tour

A few months ago, my friend Tracy Walker did a photoshoot of me as one of the studio tour artists. It took all day and we laughed our heads off: a highlight of my summer.

They are beautiful, lucious photos but I have a hard time looking at myself in them. I know I am not alone in this and I suddenly find it very interesting. I forced myself to look in the mirror and produced a myriad of sketches, some of which I made into painted relief carvings and painted plywood shapes. I am now in the middle of a series of self-portraits which will be on my studio walls at the upcoming Uxbridge Studio Tour—September 19 and 20. It has been interesting to go through the process of literal self-reflection: disappointed vanity morphing into the deeper discomfort of staring down my SELF. How profound that we are SELVES. I feel my gaze becoming kinder toward this self the more I look. We shall see what happens next.

2. WILD TINKLS

The Tinkl Book is on its way! There will be a limited number available to buy during Uxbridge Studio Tour at the Tinkls’ studio Sept 19-20. The bulk of the books will be coming a little later. At that time you will be able to buy “Wild Tinkls” at Blue Heron Books, or on Amazon.ca or through your local bookstore. Please note: I will contact the donors waiting for their complimentary books. These will not be available to pick up during the studio tour. Email me if you have a question or if you’re coming to the studio Tour from a distance.

THIS JUST IN!!!! There will be a TINKL book-signing at the Blue Heron Bookstore in Uxbridge Ontario, Sunday October 18. 2-4. It will be WILD!

3. Learn Calligraphy

Lastly, my sister Kathie, is a professional calligrapher and a teacher of calligraphy. Firefly Books has just published a beautiful, practical how-to book called “Italic Calligraphy: From Learning the Fundamentals to Dancing with your Pen” by Kathie McIlvride. Buy at Blue Heron Books (book-signing in November) or order through your local bookstore, or purchase via amazon.ca, or at my studio during the Uxbridge Studio Tour September 19 and 20.
